Grading Projects and Services
San Diego Grading and Erosion Control
San Diego grading and erosion control projects can be among the most complex in landscaping. In basic terms, grading refers to the reshaping of land through the removal, relocation, or addition of soil, dirt, or other material toward some purpose. That purpose may be practical, aesthetic, or both. One thing that is true about all grading projects is that there is always far more to them than simply “moving dirt around.” In fact, even relatively straightforward grading projects require a detailed knowledge of soil science and geophysics, not to mention local regulations and how modifying your landscape could affect your home and other structures.
Sound difficult? It can be. Fortunately, there is no grading project too difficult or large in scope for North County Landscape. Serving all of San Diego County, our experienced landscaping specialists provide the full range of landscape grading services, suitable for all possible needs. From small-scale drainage solutions to large-scale trenching, site leveling, and excavation, our experts do it all – and do it right.

Our selection of grading services includes:
Erosion Control
Our San Diego grading and erosion control services will allow you to preserve your precious soil and avoid water pollution. We are able to customize solutions to the unique situation. Sometimes it is possible to halt soil erosion simply by adding a high-quality, ecologically friendly stabilizer – also known as a soil binder – to the soil. In other cases, more aggressive approaches may be necessary to control and redirect rainwater, groundwater, and storm water. In such cases, we may use any combination of wattles, energy dissipaters, desilting basins, culverts, and other innovative solutions. We can also draw upon our extensive experience in constructing dikes, grassed swales, headwalls, and drainage ditches.
If your lawn, garden, or other outdoor space has been damaged by a storm, North County Landscape offers repair, re-grading, and clean-up services.
Flow Line Grading
Accumulations of rain and other sources of water can cause substantial damage to soil. A healthy, thriving yard must drain properly. Flow line grading involves the reshaping of the land in a strategic way so that excess water is gently guided toward a more appropriate and desirable location. This can often be accomplished through a gentle swale that either subtly blends into your existing landscape or actually enhances your landscape by mimicking a creek bed or dry stream bed. If a subsurface drainage system is necessary, we can skillfully take that route, as well.
Whatever flow line grading solution we devise for your case, you can rest assured that it will comply with California’s regulations concerning storm water control and groundwater contamination.
Contour Grading
Contour grading is one of the specialties of North County Landscape. It may be the case that a perfectly level plain is not what you envision for your outdoor space. Imagine your landscape flowing gracefully, even playfully, with artful contours, curves, and changes in elevation. We can create a tapestry of swales and mounds, valleys and ridges, interacting with the other elements of your landscape to produce a stunning result that will be one of the highlights of your home. In addition to looking spectacular, your landscape will also be strategically graded to ensure the proper drainage of water and optimal preservation of your soil.
Driveway Grading
A properly designed and constructed dirt driveway will not have to be repaired after the spring rains. In fact, the grading experts of North County Landscape can design your dirt driveway so that it is not only durable, but also able to aid in the redirection of excess water. Whether you need someone to re-grade or add a 2-percent crown to your current driveway, or you would like to have a brand new dirt driveway that is designed to last for years without need for repair, our landscaping specialists have the skills, tools, and experience to do the job right. We can apply the same grading principles to longer dirt roads, as well.
North County Landscape can apply the same principles to longer dirt roads, as well as do the grading work and pour the concrete for a hard-top driveway.
Terracing
Terraces can serve a number of purposes, from preventing soil erosion to allowing for gardening on steep slopes. North County Landscape is able to produce terraces that are as functional as they are beautiful. Whether you are looking for professionals who can build a simple backyard terrace with treated wood walls or a large terrace that requires expert excavation and drainage solutions, we will customize a terrace that perfectly fits your unique needs.
